From singing to my cats as a child
to belting out while mowing the lawn (no one can hear you, at least I
hope no one heard me!) I grew up singing all the time on my dad's farm.
Ask my brother about my attempt to sing in German, he does it better than
me! My mother and I moved to The Woodlands a few months after my twelth
birthday. There, we found a church that I would soon call home. I received
my first guitar (Ovation) for my thirteenth birthday and cried (I didn't
want a guitar!). I accepted Christ that summer when the speaker, Runks,
spoke on the first night at camp. With the help of Christ in my everyday
life, I was able to turn it around completely. I went from a
quiet girl to a spunky loud one that didn't care what people thought of
her. Spring Break in eighth grade, I went on the first student mission
trip for my church. While on the trip, I met the most amazing people who
have left a lasting effect on my life! I will always remember the time
in San Felipe.
After my freshmen year, summer camp was in Gulf Shores, AL, a nine hour bus
ride from Houston. I never expected what happened on the long ride home.
I felt God move in me, and He gave me a little glimpse of His plan for my
life. I was to go back to my hometown and start a church. Neither did I expect
my mom to tell me a few days later we were moving to San Antonio. It was,
as my mom called it, "heart-wrenching".
I almost gave up on finding a church in San Antonio. Then, my parents found
a homely church that was held in my high school. Two weeks later, I was playing
my guitar for the youth group. Almost two years later, I find myself with
an amazing opporitunity set before me by God: for people to hear my music.
